Held Captive In The Liberian Civil War: Remembering The Life And Ministry Of Apostle Dr. M.K Ntumy

In a solemn moment for The Church of Pentecost, followers mourn the passing of their esteemed leader, Apostle Dr. Michael Ntumy, who breathed his last on December 27, 2023, at the age of 65. A prominent figure in the propagation of Christianity, his journey from a humble beginning in Dadieso, Ghana, to becoming the fourth Chairman of the Church leaves an indelible mark.

Apostle Ntumy’s apostolic journey began in his early years when, as a dedicated teacher in Yendi during the 1980s, he embarked on a path that led him to the heights of religious leadership. Ordained as an apostle at the age of 33, he traversed various parts of Ghana and the world, tirelessly spreading the gospel.

His commitment was tested in the crucible of adversity, notably during the Liberian Civil War from 1989 to 1997. Serving as a pastor in the Buchanan District of Liberia, Apostle Ntumy became a symbol of hope for many, held captive with his family by the National Patriotic Front Party of Charles Taylor. Enduring assaults and poisoning in the heart of the Nimba Forest, he remained a pillar of strength, inspiring fellow hostages and members of his church.

Elder John Baidoo, presiding over the Buchanan district, shared, “Apostle Ntumy laid his life down for most of the members here. His presence brought revival, and his sermon, ‘When I saw him, I held fast to him but I now leave him,’ resonates in the hearts of every member.”

Elder Joseph Kwame Persewaa, a community leader and church elder, reflected on Apostle Ntumy’s spiritual impact: “If Apostle Ntumy was with us here now, we would have carried him up high on our shoulders. His lifestyle drew many to the church.”

Apostle Quie G. Toe, Area Head for Buchanan and National Secretary of the Church in Liberia, lauded Apostle Ntumy’s selfless leadership, attributing the successes and achievements of the Area to his guidance.

Apostle Ntumy’s legacy extends beyond his personal sacrifices. His tenure as the Missionary of The Church of Pentecost to Liberia, Ivory Coast, France/Switzerland from 1988-1998 showcased his commitment to global evangelism. Serving as the Chairman from 1998 to 2008, he steered the Church through two terms, leaving an enduring impact on its members.

As The Church of Pentecost mourns the loss of a devoted leader, the echoes of Apostle Dr. Michael Ntumy’s teachings and resilience continue to resonate, inspiring generations to come.
