The Central Regional Police Command has detained two suspects in connection with the stabbing of Ato Koomson, son of the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson. The incident took place on Sunday at the Ofaakor Electoral Commission Office near Kasoa.

According to reports, the altercation arose from a disagreement over seating arrangements at the registration center. Michael Addo, the Awutu Senya East New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency secretary, confirmed the incident during a radio interview. Mr. Addo stated that he received a call early in the morning regarding the escalating situation.

“My good friend and brother, Ato Koomson, arrived at the scene before I did. He informed me that the disagreement was intensifying and urged us to hurry,” Mr. Addo recounted. He further noted that there were concerns about the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attempting to disrupt the registration process.

Despite efforts to maintain order, the dispute culminated in Mr. Koomson being stabbed. NPP members at the scene reportedly apprehended the suspects, who were then handed over to the police after being allegedly assaulted.

“We are committed to pursuing this case to its full conclusion and ensuring that justice is served, irrespective of who is involved,” Mr. Addo asserted. He appealed to the police to expedite their investigation and ensure that justice prevails.

The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. The police have yet to release further details regarding the incident or the identities of the suspects.

This event underscores the need for heightened security and conflict resolution measures at electoral registration centers to prevent such violent occurrences in the future.
