National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddy Blay has thrown his weight behind Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson amidst calls for her sack.
This comes after Hawa Koomson admitted to firing a gun at a voters registration centre in Kasoa which she explained was an act of self defense.
There have since been calls by various groups and personalities for President Akufo Addo to sack her with Imani boss, Franklin Cudjoe daring President Akufo Addo to sack her or lose his friendship.
In reaction, Freddy Blay described the incident as overrated which does not call for a sack.
Speaking on Joy News he said, “this matter is over-exaggerated. That is what I am saying…this is not the only [registration centre] where there has been a little disagreement.”
He added, “she was a victim in this situation; definitely…I disagree with those who are calling for her [to be punished]. The laws of the party do not call for any sanction in this circumstance and I will therefore not initiate anything of the sort.”
