The running mate of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has assured cocoa farmers that the government will soon announce the producer price for cocoa beans for the 2024/2025 season.

Addressing a campaign rally during his tour of the Asunafo South and North constituencies in the Ahafo Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh urged farmers not to be swayed by claims from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding cocoa prices.

During his speech at Nobekaw in the Asunafo South Constituency, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized the NPP’s commitment to the welfare of cocoa farmers, asserting that the party has consistently worked to improve their livelihoods.

He highlighted the significant increase in cocoa prices under the NPP government, stating, “The NPP has raised cocoa prices from over 400 cedis to over 2,000 cedis in the last seven years, and soon, cocoa prices will rise again to further benefit farmers.”

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also pointed to the incumbent NPP MP, Eric Opoku’s active role in advocating for agricultural and cocoa sector issues, emphasizing the party’s dedication to ensuring the prosperity of farmers.

The NPP’s promise of an upcoming price announcement comes at a crucial time as the country gears up for the 2024 elections, with both parties vying for support from key agricultural constituencies like Asunafo. Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s message aimed to reassure farmers that the NPP government prioritizes their welfare and will continue to work towards enhancing their economic well-being.
