Government Has No Interest In Who Becomes Next Chief Imam – Attorney General Clarifies

The Attorney General, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame has clarified that the government has no interest in who succeeds the current chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

Mr Dame said that processes leading to the choice of a religious leader is best left to competent people and processes free of government interference.

The Attorney General further asserted that government is not interested in who becomes the leader of Catholic, Methodist or any other denomination.

Mr Dame was making this reaction in response to posts that gained traction on social media in April after he had met the leader of the Tijanniya Muslim Council, Sheikh Khalifa Ahmed Abdul Fadi Maikano Jallo.

There had been a fake Twitter accounted created in the name of Mr Dame which sought to create the impression that during his meeting with the Tijanniya leader, they had discussed the issue of succession of the Chief Imam.
