A communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kafui Amegah, has said that Ghana returning to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not mean the country has sold its birth right.
His comment comes after the Ministry of Finance and government announced its decision to go back to the IMF for support to reduce the economic crisis facing the country due to COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine war.
He said, ‘’the economy was regressive under Mahama’s administration- he taxed everything including condom. We cannot compare what necessitated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) decision to go the IMF to the circumstances surrounding the current economic crisis for which the NPP is seeking relief from the IMF. When we are talking about this issue we need to analyze and understand the situation on the ground”.
He added that “the internal measures to revive the economy has been affected because the collection of the E-levy didn’t commence in January as planned. We can then speak to the matter. Due to the wicked scheme of the NDC, a 1 million loan pending an approval in parliament is yet to be granted. Mahama understands the situation but will not admit to it”, he stressed.
He indicated that it has always been the wish of the NDC that the Akufo-Addo led administration fails hence the reason they have always stood against the E-levy.
