Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otukonor has bemoaned the state of lawlessness in the country which he believes is gradually turning the country to a banana republic.
According to him, the recent electoral violence, toppled with the lynching of the 90-year woman in Kafaba means the security agencies must up their game and ensure people are taken on for lawlessness.
Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ he said, “In a country where people can take the law into their hands and misbehave in this manner, then the country is gradually turning into a banana republic.”
“The government must begin to act, security agencies must not sit unconcerned. They should be swift in their investigations as they would have been should it have been one of their own.”
Otukonor added, “the government should also begin to ensure the safety, welfare, and general wellbeing of its citizens. People must not out of ignorance of the law be made to take the law into their hands and maltreat others. This is a huge security breach that endangers the safety of Ghanaians.”
This comes on the back of the lynching of a 90-year old woman who was lynched in Kafaba for allegedly being a witch.
The viral video has seen many condemnations with President Akufo Addo stating, “it should not happen again.”
