The Chief Executive (MCE) Officer of the Ga East Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, and her team have been accused of illegally demolishing properties belonging to the Queenmother of the Kwabenya Traditional Area, Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II
The MCE and her team demolished properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis belonging to the Traditional Leader.
It was surprising to realise that the MCE and her team did not touch other buildings and properties situated on the same land sharing walls with that of the Queen mother .
She is alleged to have ordered for the demolishing of only the property of the queen mother.
It is alleged that the action by the MCE was a personal attack on the Queenmother due to the current cold relationship between them.
Aside demolishing the property of the Queenmother, the MCE is alleged to have also demolished a structure housing a shrine belonging to the Kwabenya Traditional area.
Sources indicate that the MCE embarked on the exercise with the aim of taking over plots of land belonging to the Odai Ntow Family of Kwabenya.
Narrating the worries to the media, the Queenmother, Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II described the actions by the MCE and her team as unlawful.
“What I know as a citizen is that residents are expected to be informed before any demolishing exercise in an area, but the Ga East MCE put the law into her own hands and embarked on the illegal exercise” she stated.
She promised to deal with the MCE with the last drop of her blood if better explanations were not given.
She prayed to their ancestors to deal with the MCE for undermining the peace of the good people of the area.
She claimed that the Ga East MCE is using her political power to forcibly take over their family lands.
“I initially took Kaakie Mann as a daughter but I have noticed she does not want me as a mother anymore and has been doing things that would favour her as an individual” the Queenmother disclosed.
She declared that they are ready and prepared to fight the MCE till she refrained from her criminal activities in the area.
Meanwhile, when contacted, authorities at the Assembly said the action was in line with their activities aimed at protecting lands belonging to the State.
Authorities say “We not afraid of their curses since we know that we are doing the right thing when it comes to the development of the municipality”.
