Former President John Dramani Mahama has insisted his government will maintain the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy should he win power on December 7.
According to him, he has no plans to terminate it but rather strengthen its shortfalls and take off the burden that parents have to pay tuition somewhere while their wards stay home for three months.
He entreated Ghanaians to call anybody who claims he’ll cancel the free SHS a ‘bloody liar’.
“Free SHS has come to stay. If anyone comes to you that I, John Dramani Mahama, the son of E.A. Mahama is going to cancel FREE SHS, tell that person he or she is a bloody liar. What I am against is the poor implementation that has put a lot of burden on parents,”
John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in their campaign in 2016 strongly opposed the free SHS campaign by then presidential candidate Akufo Addo. The NDC insisted it was not feasible and campaigned for a progressively Free SHS which would have been rolled out gradually.
