Free SHS Has Been Beneficial To Ghana – Adutwum

The Minister of Education, Yaw Osei Adutwum has dismissed claims that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme has reduced the quality of education at the second cycle level in Ghana.

He said the programme has rather improved on the quality of education across the country.

Addressing the 75th anniversary of Dormaa Senior High School, Adutwum expressed worry over the low number of students studying science and mathematics in the institution.

The Dormaa SHS in the Dormaa Central municipality of the Bono Region was established on 24 February 1947 by SK Yeboah and JM Oppong under the name Dormaa State College with just a student.

It currently boasts of 4,473 students with a staff strength of 166 graduate teachers and 47 non-teaching officials.

The headmaster of Dormaa SHS, Nicholas Mensah commended the government for the Free SHS and STEM programmes because that will go a long way to address youth unemployment.
