Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the founder and head of the All People’s Congress (APC) party, has encouraged Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s Vice President, to forget about his presidential ambitions and focus on fixing Ghana’s ailing economy.
As a result of the government being led by the NPP doing a U-turn on its intention to accept a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ghanaians have expressed a wide range of opinions regarding the decision to mend the economy.
Ayariga, commenting on the new information, stated that Dr. Bawumia does not have sufficient influence or control over the operations of the Economic Management Team, and that he is uneasy in his position as Chair of the Management Committee.
During an interview on Oyerapa TV, he posed the question, “What is the current value of the cedi? On the basis of what Bawumia had to say, we will evaluate his overall performance. It is a manifestation of how badly the cedi has devalued that he has fared poorly, and it is a manifestation of it.
“Bawumia should give up on his hopes of becoming president of Ghana if he is unable to stop the wild slide of the cedi. Why do you want to become president if all you know how to do is talk, talk, talk, and more talk?
It was his recommendation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia that they finish their term on a positive note and work to improve the economy.
“I would advise Bawumia to consider how he will successfully fulfil the remaining two years. He should be worried about that. He doesn’t listen, but I’m hoping he will this time “He was tense.
However, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed to Ghana’s populace that his administration is committed to providing assistance for the country’s citizens and restoring the economy to the high rates of growth that prevailed in the three (3) years before to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
