Fmr Sports Minister Nii Lante Backs Milo to Stay As World Cup Qualifiers Draw Close

Former Youth and Sports Minister Edward Nii Lante Vanderpuye has said the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifying matches are too near for the Black Stars technical team to be dissolved for a new one.

Some Ghanaian football lovers are calling for the head of Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac and the technical team of the national team after Ghana was booted out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon on Tuesday night, 18 January 2022.

Ghana lost 2-3 to Afcon debutants Comoros and finished bottom of Group C with just one point.

Ghana’s group was made up of Morocco, Gabon and Comoros.

Reacting to calls for the exit of the coach, the Odododiodoo MP told Valentina Ofori-Afriyie on Class91.3FM’s mid-day news, 12Live on Wednesday, 19 January 2022 that the technical team should only be dissolved if Ghana fails to qualify for Qatar 2022.

“Since Milo [Milovan Rajevac] has been with these boys for some time, if these are the boys we will be using for the playoffs, then let him stay, work on them, at least he’s seen them, he’s been able to access them, he knows their flaws, he knows their capabilities”, Mr Vanderpuye said.

“With the few that are absent now, bring them on board, let him be able to create something out of them and then we attempt the playoffs.”

He noted: “If we’re able to go through, fine, but if we’re not able to go through the playoffs, then we can take the decision of firing Milo and the rest of the technical bench.”

“So, my caveat for changing the technical team now will be dependent on whether we will be able to qualify for Qatar 2022 or not. If we don’t qualify, sack all of them, sack all the players, let’s build a new team which may include these players and any other Ghanaian player wherever the person is,” he added.
