Mawuli Dossu, a farmer at the Wawase Amponsah-Junction, near Agona Swedru had been sentenced to a jail of seven years with hard labour for completely slashing the leg of his two-year-old daughter.
The 30-year-old man, who pleaded guilty for causing harm was charged according to his own plea by the Agona Swedru Circuit Court whilst the court ordered him to pay GH₵6000 as compensation to the child.
The Prosecutor, Police Inspector Clara Salia narrated to the court presided by Mr. Jonathon Desmond Nunoo that, on the 14th of December, Mawuli had a misunderstanding between the convict and his wife Joana Amewu.
She said there was a struggle as both husband and wife damaged each other’s shirt and dress respectively.
Inspector Salia explained that, Mawuli who was uncontrollably furious took a cutlass to slash the wife who ran away but upon a second attempt, the cutlass unfortunately landed on the little girl’s leg slashing it off completely.
The victim was quickly rushed to the Agona Swedru Municipal Government Hospital where she was admitted and received treatment.
The incident was then reported to the Agona Swedru Divisional office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.
