Facebook-Meta To Pay $90million To Settle Lawsuit For Spying On User’s Like Button Activity

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has agreed to pay $90 million (approximately ₹676 Crores) to resolve a lawsuit over how the social media giant tracked users’ online activity.

The lawsuit, which was filed ten years ago, is about Facebook’s access to users’ online activity even after they have logged out.

Facebook’s signature “like” button plug-in has been a major contributor to this process as it granted access to a large amount of user data.

In typical Facebook fashion, the company acquired cookies (essentially a trail of user activity on Facebook), giving access to what sites a user visited, things they checked and purchased, and other interactions they may have with the website.
