Former President John Mahama has launched a scathing critique of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the Akufo-Addo administration of unprecedented levels of corruption. Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Sunday, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer expressed deep concern over the current state of governance in Ghana.

“What we have now, obviously never and should never be a yardstick for governance. My goal is to launch a renewed fight against corruption,” Mahama stated, emphasizing his commitment to addressing corruption if elected.

He announced plans for an NDC administration to establish a robust team dedicated to investigating corrupt activities under the current government. Mahama assured Ghanaians that drastic measures would be taken to hold corrupt officials and their accomplices accountable.

“…and Ghanaians can be assured that drastic steps will be taken to punish the corrupt officials and the accomplices in this present administration. No actor in this NPP corruption enterprise will be spared and we will also take action to repossess what has been unlawfully stolen from the Ghanaian people,” he declared.

Mahama also promised that, if elected, his administration would implement strict measures to keep his appointees in check, ensuring transparency and integrity in governance.

This press conference is part of Mahama’s broader engagement with the media and stakeholders as he gears up for the 2024 election.
