Fisheries Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson had the shock of her life when food items she had packed to donate to fishermen at Elmina were outrightly rejected by the fisherfolks.
The reason for the rejection, according to myjoyonline was the minister’s firm stance on disallowing light fishing when the Closed Season opens.
According to the fisherfolks, a ban on light fishing tantamounts to hunger strike since that’s the only way they could survive.
Furthermore, they accused the minister of abandoning them during the Closed Season only to show up with foodstuff when they have already ended the closed season.
The Minister’s entourage had no option other than to pack the items back into a waiting pick-up truck.
