Electoral Commission to Reprint Ballots for Berekum West and East Constituencies Over Errors

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced plans to reprint presidential election ballot papers for the Berekum West and Berekum East constituencies in the Bono Region due to discrepancies identified in the original prints.

In a letter signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, and dated November 28, 2024, the Commission outlined the nature of the errors.

Nature of the Discrepancies

For Berekum West, the EC reported inconsistencies between the serial numbers on the ballot papers and their corresponding counterfoils. The errors affect seven of the 100-booklet series and one of the 25-booklet series for the presidential ballots.

In Berekum East, the issue involved both inconsistency and duplication of serial numbers. Specifically:

• Three booklets of the 100-booklet series,
• One booklet of the 50-booklet series,
• One booklet of the 25-booklet series, and
• Two booklets of the 10-booklet series were affected, with the latter having identical serial numbers.

Reprinting Arrangements

To address these issues, the EC announced that the affected ballot papers would be submitted to the Ghana Publishing Company (Assembly Press) for reprinting.

In a bid to maintain transparency, the Commission has invited all political parties and independent presidential candidates to provide two representatives each to observe the reprinting process. This observation exercise is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Assembly Press premises in Accra.
