Education Minister Explains Why Schools Cannot Be Shut Down

Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has argued why government is not looking to close schools amidst reported cases of Covid-19 in variou senior high schools.

Speaking on Adom TV’s ‘Badwam’ programme on Monday morning, he argued that calls for students to be sent back home is unjustified as cases have not even been reported in some communities where the schools are located.

“Those of us in leadership must listen to public concerns, and be guided by the evidence in making recommendations to the President.

“Even if my child were in school at present, I would not, with the evidence as it stands, recommend to the President that schools should be shut down”, he argued.

According to the minister, closing down schools will depend on community trends as well as risks and rewards involved.
