ECG Glitch: Affected Customers Will Be Compensated – Says PURC

The Director of research and corporate affairs at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Dr Eric Obutey has said talks are underway for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to compensate customers, who were hit by a glitch in its PNS and Ecash metering system.

Some customers in parts of the Volta Region, Takoradi, Tema, Cape Coast, Kasoa, Winneba, Swedru, Koforidua, Nkawkaw and Tafo were unable to buy electricity credit due to metering system downtime.

In a notice on Saturday (1 October), ECG said the challenge with third party vending points has now been resolved after experiencing downtime for a few days.

“This is through no fault of the customer,” Obutey said on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (3 October 2022). “So, the PURC is in touch with the utility service provider to see the best way of compensating the people who have been affected by this non vending situation.”

“But for now, what we are trying to do is to make sure people get access to the vending points, and once that is done, discussion is ongoing to ensure how to compensate affected customers,” he added.
