EC Urges NDC To Provide Evidence At Crucial IPAC Meeting Amid Voter Register Dispute

The Electoral Commission (EC) has called on all stakeholders attending Tuesday’s Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to present data and evidence supporting any concerns or discrepancies they may have regarding the Provisional Voters Register (PVR). This request comes as the EC seeks to foster collaborative efforts to address issues raised ahead of the 2024 elections.

In a statement released on Monday, September 30, the EC emphasized that presenting concrete evidence will help streamline the resolution process. The commission noted that despite multiple requests, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not yet provided the data supporting its claims of discrepancies in the PVR, which have led to the party’s call for a forensic audit.

The EC reiterated that it expects the NDC and other political parties to bring their evidence to the IPAC meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, October 1. The Commission also reminded the public that the preparation of the Final Voters Register is an ongoing process, assuring that it remains committed to working with IPAC to resolve any outstanding concerns.

NDC Pushes for Live Coverage

Meanwhile, the NDC has renewed its call for the EC to permit live media coverage of the upcoming IPAC meeting. Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of IT and Elections, took to social media, suggesting that live coverage would provide Ghanaians with real-time and unbiased information regarding the state of the voter register following the EC’s self-audit.

The NDC has consistently expressed concerns about alleged discrepancies in the provisional voter register, maintaining its demand for a forensic audit to address the issues. Dr. Boamah reiterated that these discrepancies have not yet been resolved and emphasized the importance of public transparency during IPAC discussions.

The ongoing back-and-forth between the NDC and the EC underscores the tensions surrounding the voter register, with Tuesday’s meeting seen as a critical moment for addressing these concerns as the 2024 elections approach.
