EC Is Refusing To Open It’s Books For Scrutiny – Omane Boamah Criticizes EC’s Rejection of Forensic Audit Request

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has voiced concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register, a request made by the party.

Speaking to the media after the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on September 6, Dr. Boamah expressed disappointment, stating that the EC’s resistance to external scrutiny raises concerns about transparency. “The Electoral Commission has not accepted the independent forensic audit as we had anticipated,” he said.

Dr. Boamah compared the situation to professionals who delay action until it’s too late. “Not all doctors refer cases when necessary, and not all workers act before disasters strike. The EC, in this case, is behaving similarly. We would have preferred if the Commission had agreed to this audit, which would have reassured Ghanaians about the integrity of the electoral process.”

His comments come amid concerns raised by the Minority in Parliament regarding the integrity of the voter register. On September 10, the Minority alleged that the register had been tampered with, citing irregularities that the EC itself had acknowledged.

The NDC and the Minority have reiterated their call for a forensic audit, arguing that it is essential to guarantee a free and fair election. According to the opposition, flaws in the current register undermine confidence in the election process, prompting their insistence on a thorough review.
