EC Has Shown Incompetence In Its Relationship With NDC, Other Opposition Parties – Gyampo

Professor Ransford Gyampo, a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana says the Electoral Commission has demonstrated incompetence in it relationship with opposition parties, particularly, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He called for urgent stakeholder intervention to address the tension between the EC and the NDC.

He further called on the EC to assign a communicator who will explain their position on electoral decisions to the public.

According to him it’s always been the case that the ruling party seem to be in bed with the EC and are always defending it while the opposition disagrees.

He urged communicators of the ruling parties to shut up concerning issues of the EC and allow the commission to speak for itself.

He added ‘’Since 1992 depending on which side of the divide you are, you will either be in bed with the Electoral Commission or against the Electoral Commission.’’

‘’Immediately you have the ruling party arrogating itself to be the mouthpiece of the Electoral Commission, the moment these things happen, it creates needless suspicion in the minds of the opposition’’. ‘’And so they will oppose whatever move the electoral commission takes and so let the ruling party learn to shut up when issues with the Electoral Commission come up’’.
