EC Afraid Of Releasing Final Voter’s Register To Us – Omane Boamah Alleges
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to release the final voter register, with Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the party’s Director of Elections and IT, stating that the EC may be withholding the register due to fears that more discrepancies could be uncovered.
Speaking at a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other key stakeholders on Monday, September 23, Dr. Boamah expressed the NDC’s frustration over the EC’s failure to respond to multiple requests for the document. He questioned the Commission’s transparency in the lead-up to the forthcoming elections, warning that the situation could undermine the credibility of the electoral process.
Dr. Boamah emphasized the critical role a credible voter register plays in ensuring free and fair elections, adding that the NDC and other political parties have a legal right to access the register well in advance. This access, he noted, is essential for adequate preparation and to ensure the integrity of the election.
“The Electoral Commission has claimed to have addressed our concerns, but we are yet to receive the final voter register,” Dr. Boamah stated. “They appear to be hesitant to share it, perhaps out of fear of what more we might reveal.”
He hinted that the EC’s reluctance could be an indication of deeper issues within the electoral body and further stressed the importance of transparency in building trust among political parties and voters. Dr. Boamah called for the immediate release of the register to ensure that the electoral process remains fair and credible.
