E-Levy: NDC Misleading Their Supporters – NPP

The reaction of the Minority after the approval of the Electronic Transfer Levy Bill, according to Charles Onuawonto Bissue, Western Region Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is “much ado about nothing.”

He claimed that, similar to their reaction to the 2020 election results, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is misleading its followers about the Bill.

Members of Parliament (MPs) from the opposing party staged a walkout on Tuesday, March 29 ahead of the controversial e-levy Bill’s third and final reading and deliberation.

Later, the caucus leader, Haruna Iddrisu, stated that his party will appeal the votes in Parliament on Tuesday to the Supreme Court because the Majority did not have a quorum to vote on the bill.

A challenge to the E-levy permission has been filed at the Supreme Court by a small group of people.

Mr Bissue, who is striving to be the NPP’s General Secretary, said the NDC is simply fooling their supporters on TV3’s New Day on Wednesday, March 30.

“They went to court with no proof in the 2020 elections,” he said, recalling how members of the party gathered near the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) offices over guarantees from the party’s leadership that they would win the elections.

He claims that the NDC has long believed that the e-levy will drive the NPP out of power, and he wonders why they are making such a fuss about the bill’s passage.

Sam Nartey George, the NDC’s Ningo-Prampram lawmaker, was also on the show.

He indicated that the Minority stands by its decision to walk out and then proceed to court because it was made in consultation with the party’s leadership.
