Drunkards Association Urges Police To Deal With Officers Who Booze In Their Uniforms

The Ghana Drunkards Association, an umbrella body with over six million members has called on the heads of the various security agencies in the country to take steps to prevent their officers from entering bars in their uniforms.

“It would be of interest to note that this security personnel especially from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Prisons Service though not prohibited by law not to take alcohol, their continual habit of visiting drinking spots, taverns, and pubs with their uniforms and some with rifles on them possess a great security threat to our loyal members and brings the name of the service they represent into disrepute,” the association said in a statement.

They want the heads of these security services to stop their men from such habit.

“We’re, therefore, calling on the Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, and the Chief Fire Officer to kindly do the needful by admonishing their officers to desist from such an unprofessional conduct that has the tendency of creating fear and panic to our members and some members of the general public who are seriously committed to drinking, as such act is an infringement on our human right,” the statement stated.

The association noted that men and women in uniform are friendly forces and hoped that their statement would not serve as a bridge of bad blood among members and the officers.
