Renowned investigative journalist Manasseh Azure has publicly endorsed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) most viable candidate for the 2028 general elections.
In a social media post, Azure argued that Bawumia remains the opposition party’s best chance at securing victory, describing him as the “most formidable candidate” the NPP can present. He further suggested that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) views Bawumia as the biggest threat in future polls.
“I don’t need a job from anyone to recognize that Bawumia is the NPP candidate the NDC fears the most in upcoming elections,” Azure stated.
Though Bawumia has yet to officially declare his candidacy, sources indicate he is in consultation with key stakeholders. During a recent meeting with over 60 NPP Members of Parliament, he assured them of an announcement in the coming days.
Meanwhile, other prominent NPP figures, including Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, and Bryan Acheampong, have already declared their intentions to run for the party’s flagbearer position.
The NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has confirmed that internal elections will proceed as scheduled, setting the stage for a competitive primary ahead of the 2028 polls.
