The Paramount Chief of Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV has advised the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama to be measured in his campaign promises.
The revered Chief, while addressing the former President on the latter’s campaign tour of the Bono Region, advised him to always look at the bigger picture, and promise what will be in the collective national interest, rather than make populist promises to satisfy the teeming masses.
According to Nana Akumfi Ameyaw, though every individual and region has their own pressing need, which they are likely to lay before the NDC flagbearer as he continues to campaign, it is imperative that he weighs each request and need on its own merit.
The Chief also cautioned the former President to be mindful of the fact that the same people laying their requests before him will be the same people calling him to accountability, if he were to win power.
“During this time, everyone in the country expresses their needs so you should manage the leader-follower relationship very well. If you don’t manage it well and you look at the expectations and demands of people to make your promises you ill be shocked.” He said.
“We’ve seen some before during the revolution that had the support of many but at the end of the revolution, everything was blamed on former President Rawlings. So don’t make decisions based on what people say but rather focus on the national interest.” He added.
