The Vice President, Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia says the total revenue generated per year from the application of passports has increased to 56 million Ghana cedis as compared to 1 million Ghana cedis in 2017.
This increment, he said is due to the government’s digitalisation of the processes of obtaining passports.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the official launch of Accra Business School’s IT programmes, Dr. Bawumia noted the number of persons who apply for passports per year has also increased to 498,000 as compared to 16,000 prior to the digitalisation agenda.
“When we started the digitalisation in 2017, the total revenue of the passport office was 1 million Ghana cedis. Today, it has jumped to 56 million Ghana cedis in one year. The number of passports that people applied for at the beginning of 2017, we had 16,000 in a year. Today, 498,000 a year because you can sit at home and apply for it and the revenue has gone up,” he said.
