The effort to secure Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the chosen candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming presidential election has received significant momentum due to the switch in allegiance of Rhaman Mojeebo.
Mojeebo, who was once a staunch supporter of Alan Kyeremanten, one of the leading contenders in the NPP’s presidential candidacy competition, has now aligned himself with Bawumia’s camp ahead of the November congress.
Rhaman Mojeebo, a prominent figure within the Upper West Region of the party, had been actively involved in supporting Hon. Alan Kyeremanten’s bid for leadership within the NPP before he switched his allegiance to Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s camp.
He had been actively involved in the “Alan for President” campaign strategy, campaigning fervently. However, in a surprising turn of events, he dramatically switched his allegiance to the “It is possible” movement and threw his full support behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Rhaman Mojeebo publicly announced his defection to Dr. Bawumia’s side in a brief social media post on Facebook. His caption on one of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign pictures simply read, “DMB We Move.”
Although Mr. Mojeebo has not yet offered additional details regarding his switch to Dr. Bawumia’s camp, some speculate that Dr. Bawumia’s recent resounding victory at the super delegates conference could be a motivating factor behind this move. While some political analysts find Mr. Mojeebo’s decision unexpected, others view such shifts as natural occurrences in internal contests, where rival factions engage in efforts to attract influential members to their side through lobbying.
