An Accra High court hearing the case of contempt brought against MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has turned down a request by the lawmaker’s doctor to give his testimony in-camera.
The court, presided over by Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni declined the request by lawyers of the Medical Doctor of Holy Trinity Medical Center/Spa and Health Farm, to hear his testimony in-camera. The doctor had cited doctor-client confidentiality.
The court summoned Dr Kennedy Kwabena Addo after he signed a medical form that indicated that the Assin Central MP had suffered post COVID complications. This was after the maverick politician failed to attend his substantive contempt hearing a few weeks ago.
Lawyer C H Chamber, counsel for Dr Addo explained that the doctor’s responses could bring out confidentiality issues between a doctor and client relationship.
However, the court declined the request, insisting that the summons was for the doctor to come and speak to the excuse duty form he issued giving the contemnor 14 straight days excuse.
The court said the excuse duty form was brought up in open court and assured the Lawyer that, the court was not going to delve into issues regarding his medical conditions.
