Court Orders Achimota School To Admit Rastafarians

The Human Rights Court in Accra has directed the Achimota Senior High School to admit two Rastafarian students rejected because of their hairstyle.

According to the court, the school’s refusal to admit Tyrone Marhguy and Oheneba Nkrabea is an infringement on their fundamental human rights and and right to education.

The presiding judge, Justice Gifty Adjei Addo granted all seven reliefs sought by the applicants except for the award of cost.

Tyrone Marhguy and Oheneba Nkrabea sued Achimota school after they refused them admission because of their dreadlocks.

The school ordered that they cut off their locks before they could be admitted.
