The Sekondi High Court has given the NDC MP for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, a 10-day ultimatum to prove she is not an Ivorian citizen.
The lawmaker was dragged to court by one Joshua Emuah Kwofie, who alleges that the MP is a dual citizen, contrary to Ghana’s laws on eligibility of Political office holders.
The NDC’s ‘application of no case’ concerning the matter was earlier thrown out by the Court.
The Justice of the Court, Dr Richard Osei Hwere, on Tuesday, 22 June 2021, stated that the defendant had accepted that she had Ivorian citizenship but renounced it before contesting, adding that it will be appropriate for her to be given the opportunity to produce the evidence.
He, therefore, ordered the lawmaker to provide the certificate that proves she renounced her Ivorian citizenship within 10 days to the court registry.
