Commercial Drivers In Queue Buying Fuel On Credit To Make Ends Meet

Ghana’s economy continues to deteriorate, prompting citizens to demand action from the government, particularly in the areas of taxes and commodities, which continue to rise on a daily basis.

Fuel prices are another issue that the country is dealing with; according to a report by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), fuel prices are continuing to rise as a result of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Fuel prices are high in foreign markets, and the dollar’s depreciation against the cedi is another issue, as the cedi has completely devalued against the dollar.

Commercial drivers may no longer pay for petrol and must instead buy it on credit, according to a photo shared trending on social media. Before Wednesday, the price of gasoline was Ghc8.6. It has now risen to Ghc10.80.

The drivers’ union has also stated in the news that due to the current status of the fuel price, which continues to rise without showing any signs of decreasing, they would be raising transportation fares very soon.
