Child Nutrition: IFPRI Partners Noguchi In Bid To Improve Early Childhood Nutrition And Growth

A dissemination and closing ceremony of a project aimed to urgently improve nutrition intake and growth among young children have been held by the International Food Policy Research Institute and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR)

The ‘Improving Early Childhood Nutrition and Growth: A Supplementation Intervention with KOKO Plus Project”, aimed to urgently improve nutrition intake and growth among young children.

The project distributed a nutrition supplement developed by Ajinomoto Inc., called KOKO Plus, to families who have children aged between 6 to 24 months in transition from breastfeeding to complementary/solid food; where together with the Ghana Health Service, target beneficiaries received the supplementation of KOKO Plus to improve their nutrition situations.

Speaking to the media, Research Officer for the International Food Policy Research Institute, Doreen Kufoalor, urged mothers to add the koko plus to the diets of their kids for them to gain the right nutrition for their growth.

In a similar event, the IFPRI AND NOGUCHI In collaboration with Japanese experts working on school lunch from the University of Niigata Prefecture and Japan Society of Nutrition and Dietetics together with local Ghanaian expertise, the Ghana School Feeding Program and key stakeholders, Launched a project to introduce a sustainable school meals intervention aiming to support and improve the Ghana School Feeding Program by redesigning menus and strengthening linkages to local agriculture based on Japan’s experience in the school lunch program.

Minister and Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Francisca Oteng-Mensah expressed government’s commitment to the school feeding program.
