The Ghana Police Service have gone to the rescue of some 39 trafficked Nigerians in the Central Region.
The operation which took place at the Gomoa Pomadze led to the arrest of two other Nigerians, Paul Okafor and Duru Favour.
“On July 12, 2020, upon information received from an informant, the Winneba District Police Commander dispatched a Police Patrol team to Gomoa Pomadze where they met 3 Ghanaians in the company of Charles Ikorohk, aged 21 and a Nigeria. Charles Ikorohk told the team that he arrived into the country from Nigeria to visit a friend but couldn’t trace him and got stranded,” a statement released by the regional police command read.
Describing the rescue mission, the Central Regional Police Spokesperson, DSP Irene Oppong said Charles Ikorohk narrated how fellow Nigerians had been camped in a house and being subject to inhumane treatment to undertake illegal activities.
She called on the public to help trace one of the suspects, Michael Arisuezo, who is currently on the run.
The victims have been handed over to the Central Regional Anti Human Trafficking Unit and are currently kept at a shelter centre.
According to the police, 36 laptops were retrieved from the suspects while the landlord of the house they camped in has been put on police enquiry bail.
“We are calling on the general public to provide information leading to the arrest of Michael Arisuezo,” DSP Irene Oppong told Citi FM.
