Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has petitioned the Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, Justice Anin Yeboah, calling for the contempt trial instituted against him to be halted.
The lawmaker claims that the judge hearing the contempt case against him, Amos Wuntah Wuni will create a situation where he will be biased should he go ahead to hear the case.
This action by the MP is the latest attempt to halt the contempt trial after his lawyers earlier filed an application at the Supreme Court to challenge Justice Awuni’s jurisdiction to hear the matter.
The MP’s legal team has since filed a fresh application at the High Court asking that Justice Wuni is restrained from hearing the matter.
They explain that “since his Lordships Amos Wuntah Wuni’s authority to exercise his jurisdiction in the committal proceedings is in issue, it will be bias and prejudicial for his Lordship to be a Judge in his own case in the exercise of such questionable jurisdiction”.
