Being Gay Is Not Against The Laws Of Ghana – Prof Gadzekpo
Professor Audrey Gadzekpo, a member of a group of 18 academicians and human rights defenders who are opposing the anti-gay bill in Parliament has insisted that no law in the country frowns upon the act of gayism.
Speaking on Citi TV’s face to face program she said the closest to an anti-gay law that people can quote is the issue of unnatural carnal knowledge which is a colonial carryover.
“There is no law in Ghana against being gay, there is no law. The closest you will get, that people quote is the law against unnatural carnal knowledge, that colonial-era law. The British bequeathed it to us, we haven’t removed it from our books.
“But if somebody is gay, does it automatically translate to the person having unnatural carnal knowledge? So if you are heterosexual, does it automatically translate to you having sex?” she asked.
“Secondly, unnatural carnal knowledge defined is not only restricted to homosexuality, oral sex as well is unnatural carnal knowledge, anal sex is unnatural carnal knowledge and therefore heterosexuals who indulge in those according to the law are just as guilty as homosexuals,” she submitted.
