Bawumia Is Not Promising 24-Hour Disco; He Is A Man Of Good Ideas – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his strong support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the next presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Speaking during a visit to the Mamprugu Traditional Area on October 14, 2024, President Akufo-Addo described Dr. Bawumia as a competent and capable leader, well-prepared to take over the presidency.

The President, on a two-day tour of the Northern, North East, and Savanna regions, emphasized that after 16 years of working closely with Dr. Bawumia, he is confident that his Vice President will excel in leading the country. “He is extremely competent, fit, and able to be our next President,” Akufo-Addo stated, adding that Dr. Bawumia is “intellectually well-endowed, loyal, principled, and honest.” He noted that if Ghanaians entrust Dr. Bawumia with the presidency, he will “make an excellent President.”

Akufo-Addo also highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s readiness to lead Ghana into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, pointing to his innovative ideas and forward-thinking agenda for the country’s development. “He is not proposing 24-hour discotheques,” the President remarked, in a light-hearted comparison, “but rather, he has a solid plan to guide Ghana’s future.”

During the visit, President Akufo-Addo received high praise from the Nayiri, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, and the chiefs and people of the Mamprugu Traditional Area for his years of dedicated service to Ghana. The Nayiri acknowledged the significant progress made in the North East Region during Akufo-Addo’s administration, particularly following the creation of the region. He recognized the President’s political journey as one marked by resolve and commitment, stating, “You partnered with my adorable son, HE Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to transform Ghana.”

Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the Nayiri for maintaining peace in the region, especially in conflict-prone areas like Bawku, acknowledging that the personal efforts of the traditional leaders were instrumental in achieving stability.

As Akufo-Addo’s term nears its end, he confidently called on the chiefs and people of the area to support Dr. Bawumia’s bid for the presidency, saying, “I know who will succeed me… Your son, my Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia.” The President reiterated his belief that Bawumia is the best candidate to lead Ghana into the future, and urged for collective efforts to ensure his success.

The visit forms part of President Akufo-Addo’s farewell tour, during which he is expressing gratitude to various regions for their support during his presidency. He is set to complete his second term in January 2025.
