Ashanti Region Drivers Boycott Sit-Down Strike, Says Akufo-Addo’s Government Is Doing Better [Video]
Drivers in Ashanti Region have boycotted the sit-down strike, claiming that there has been no significant increase in fuel prices.
In an interview with Nhyira FM, Multimedia Correspondent OGEE- PONCH reported that drivers in Konogo, Kumasi Metropolitan, Teac Junction, and Obuasi are working as usual and that there is no sit-down strike in the region.
According to OGEE, the Ashanti Region’s drivers do not appear to be striking in the same way as truckers in other regions do because they are busy loading to destinations like Accra and other locations.
However According to the Coalition, the decision to go on strike was made during a meeting of the Coalition convened on Monday, November 22nd, 2021, in the Ghana Trades Union Congress Building in Accra.
“This is in protest of the government’s deafening silence in the 2022 budget declaration on the abolition of the five (5) particular nuisance levies and taxes that we identified at our press conference on November 9th, 2021 at the Neoplan Station in Accra. We’ve decided to take steps to protect our livelihoods while also easing the agony of the traveling public.
