After a prolonged period of removing chiefs from their positions, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has installed a new chief.
On Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the Asantehene enstooled Nana Bona Kessetare II as the Abirahene, the leader of the Abira Traditional Area.
The appointment of the new Abirahene marks the second such installation in recent months, following five instances of destooling chiefs by the Ashanti Kingdom’s overlord.
In a video shared by Opemsuuo Radio based in Kumasi, Nana Bona Kessetare II was seen taking an oath of allegiance to the Asantehene during his enstoolment ceremony. Holding a sword aloft, Abirahene Kessetare II pledged his commitment to serve his community with utmost dedication.
Prior to administering the oath, the Asantehene offered counsel to the newly appointed chief, emphasizing the importance of honesty and loyalty to the Ashanti territory. Additionally, he encouraged the Abirahene’s kinsmen to provide their unwavering support in his new leadership role, with the aim of enhancing the well-being of the people of Abira.
