Asante Kotoko Reportedly In Advanced Stages With Ghanaian Coach To Replace Barreto

After series of public ridiculing by Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto, the hierarchy of Kumasi Asante Kotoko are contemplating on part ways with the 64 year old before the new season begins.

Mariano Barreto is reportedly at loggerheads with the club’s board and their relationship has been deteriorated beyond repair making his stay very much unlikely.

Latest rumour from a close outlet to the club claims, Kumasi Asante Kotoko are in talks with a Ghanaian coach to replace want-away Mariano Barreto and negotiations is in its advanced stages and would be finalized soon.

The said coach is Dr. Prosper Nettey Ogum, who is the current coach of WAFA. According to the rumour, the Ghanaian tactician has been lined to replace Mariano Barreto in the coming days. Prosper Nettey Ogum, who is also a Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast is one of the experienced local based coaches, who has had fruitful spells at several local clubs including his heroics in 2013 to help Elmina Sharks gain promotion from Division two. If the reports is anything to go by then Barreto’s sack would be announced soon.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko relinquished an opportunity to win the Ghana premier league title to their fierce league rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak last season. Another dismal run in the MTN FA Cup, losing on penalties in the quarter-finals to Berekum Chelsea sparked criticism from their supporter with a portion of the blame directed to Mariano Barreto. Coupled with his loggerheads with the club’s hierarchy, his sack is virtually inevitable with Prosper Ogum rumoured to replace him.
