Appointments Committee Approves Ken Ofori-Atta By Consensus

The Appointments Committee of Parliament has approved the Appointment of Ken Ofori-Atta as Minister for Finance, this portal understands.

Mr Ofori-Atta could not be vetted earlier because of ill health stemming from complications he suffered after he was treated of Covid-19 last year.

His vetting generated intense public interest as a result of the controversial Agyapa deal and others.

However, after being grilled for two days, the Appointments Committee has approved his appointment by consensus, meaning he will now be presented to the plenary for approval.

Earlier reports suggested the Minority was planning to reject and abstain from the approval of Mr Ofori-Atta after their party members berated them over the approval of some nominees.

The first deputy Speaker explained that consensus approval means the minister-designate will be approved by voice vote and not by secret balloting.
