Former President John Dramani Mahama admitted to being melancholy, earning him the moniker “Mr. Dumsor,” also known as “Mr. Power Cut.”
During John Mahama’s tenure as President of the National Democratic Congress, the country experienced a severe power outage that lasted over three years.
Responding to the slur for the first time during a meeting with Uganda’s NBS Television, the previous president described it as “out of line,” raising concerns among Ghanaians.
“What you’re referring to is Ghana’s true energy crisis, which was caused by past legislators’ lack of foresight over time.
Ghana’s power consumption has been increasing at a rate of roughly 12% each year “annum,” he remarked, trying to make sense of the reasons for the power outage at the time.
The BBC, for example, had previously referred to John Mahama’s second proffer challenge in the 2016 general elections with the heading “Ghana political decision: Can ‘Mr. Power Cut’ John Mahama win a following term?”
The continuous power outage known as ‘Dumsor,’ which was horrible, quirky, and extreme for some locals at the time, quickly became a well-known moniker across the country.
Several organizations and employment in the country were destroyed as a result of the situation.
