An NPP MP Has Bought Ghanaweb Secretly For 1 Million Euros – Sam George Blows Alarm

Sam Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has made claims that a Member of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is currently the owner of one of Ghana’s major media platforms, GhanaWeb.com. According to Sam George, this move is part of the NPP’s strategy to control various sectors and secure victory in the upcoming elections.

In his statement, George asserted, “The NPP is so desperate to win power. They don’t believe that Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Napo on their own strengths can win them power. They need to capture every aspect of the tape.”

Elaborating on the alleged acquisition, George mentioned that GhanaWeb, known for its neutral stance and balanced coverage of both NPP and NDC opinions, is now owned by a conglomerate called African Web Technologies. This entity is managed by a Dutch man named Robela, who, after a legal dispute with his partner Mark, sought investors to cover the damages. George claimed that an NPP MP paid 1 million euros to acquire GhanaWeb and appointed David Antwi, his wife’s brother, as the new Managing Director.

“Our colleague in Parliament on the NPP side paid 1 million euros to take over GhanaWeb. He has installed as the CEO his wife’s brother by the name of David Antwi as the new Managing Director,” George alleged.

He emphasized the implications of this alleged takeover, suggesting that GhanaWeb has now become an extension of the NPP’s propaganda wing. “It is important that Ghanaians now know that GhanaWeb is no longer that objective mouthpiece. GhanaWeb has now become like Daily Search Light. It is an extension of the NPP propaganda wing,” he asserted.
