Amansie South DCE Sacked Over Embarrassing “Galamsey” Video

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Amansie South District in the Ashanti Region, William Asante Bediako has been fired by President Akufo Addo after a vural video of him encouraging illegal mining (galamsey) surfaced online.

Sources indicated that the President was “upset and embarrassed” over his appointee’s audacious endorsement of “galamsey” activities in his district despite his government’s strenuous efforts at abolishing illegal mining in the country.”

A press release issued and signed by Hon. Alima Mahama disclosed the President has nominated Clement Opoku Gyamfi as the new DCE for Amansie South.

Meanwhile, Abdul-Muumin Issah replaces the late Dr. K.K. Sam, who died of COVID-19 as the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Sekondi-Takoradi.

Barima Awuah Sarpong Asiedu-Larbi has also been nominated as the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapim North in the Eastern region who has also been fired.

The sacked DCE, William Asante Bediako was recorded on video at a function at Manso Tontokrom expressing his disagreement with the President’s decision to clamp down on illegal mining.

“Why would I not support “galamsey”? Had it not been “galamsey”, we would not have had a storey building at Manso; had it not been “galamsey” and hardworking nature of the people of Manso, a young person from Manso would not have been able to purchase a car worth one billion Cedis,” he said.
