Elorm Ababio, popularly known as Ama Governor, along with eight others, has been granted bail by the Accra High Court after their arrest during a protest against illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey. The court set the bail amount at GHC 70,000 for each individual involved.

The protest, aimed at drawing attention to the environmental damage and socio-economic issues caused by galamsey, led to the arrest of some of the activists who clashed with the police. Ama Governor, a known lawyer and social media influencer, has been vocal in her advocacy for social justice, and her involvement in the protest has drawn significant public attention.

The Accra High Court, after hearing the case, granted bail with conditions including sureties, allowing the accused to be temporarily released pending further legal proceedings. The protesters maintain that their actions were necessary to raise awareness about the illegal mining activities that continue to plague many parts of Ghana, causing severe damage to natural resources and water bodies.

The case continues to receive widespread media attention as the country grapples with the ongoing galamsey issue, with many civil society groups calling for stronger enforcement of anti-mining regulations and government action to tackle the environmental destruction.
