Ghanafeed can authoritatively report that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has decided to retain the decentralized voting process for the forthcoming Presidential primary.
The NPP’s decision to uphold the decentralized voting procedure for the Presidential primary follows the method used in 2014, during the tenure of former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.
While nine out of ten presidential aspirants, excluding the leading candidate Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, had submitted a petition urging the party leadership to reconsider the decentralized voting system for the super delegates conference.
The NPP has decided to stick with the decentralized voting method for the super delegates conference, which will narrow down the list of ten aspirants to five for the main conference to elect a flagbearer in November 2023. After careful consideration, the party leadership found no compelling reasons to deviate from the successful system used in 2014.
During that time, the decentralized voting procedure received praise from various party figures, including Kwabena Agyepong and prominent Presidential aspirants Alan Kyerematen, Joe Ghatey, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, and Francis Adai Nimo.
By maintaining this decentralized voting approach, the NPP aims to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and broad participation among party members in the process of selecting their Presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, Richard Nyamah, the spokesperson for the Alan Kyeremanten campaign team, has issued a warning, stating that the NPP could face division if the party leadership proceeds with organizing a centralized super delegates election.
Mr. Nyamah accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government of advocating for a decentralized election to potentially manipulate the outcome in favor of the ‘establishment’ candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He argued that organizing the super delegates election at the regional level holds no economic or logistical justification.
