Akufo-Addo Set To Hijack Mahama’s ‘Free Tertiary Education’ Policy As He Outlines Gov’t Plans

President Akufo-Addo has hinted that his government is considering making tertiary education free just like primary and secondary education.

The President dropped this hint when he spoke at the Global Education Summit where he announced his government’s plans on education.

“For now, what has been put in place is a system where students at the tertiary level are provided loans while in school to help them cater for their needs, but we’re considering free Tertiary education too,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo’s hint suggests that his government is considering adopting the free tertiary policy as was contained in the NDC’s 2020 manifesto.

Many Civil Society Organizations have already questioned government’s intention to take on the extra burden of funding tertiary education when it is struggling to fund Free SHS.
