Akufo Addo Pledges to Intensify War Against Illegal Mining

President Akufo Addo has affirmed his government’s desire to continue the fight against illegal mining (galamsey), sand winning and other activities that destroys the country’s water bodies.

Speaking at a sod cutting ceremony for the construction of the Yendi Water Supply Project on Wednesday July 29, he noted that government’s commitment to ensure the safety of water bodies which many Ghanaians depend on remains unwavering.

“We continue to wage war against, and intensify our resolve to curb the activities of illegal miners (galamseyers), sand winning and farming along the banks of our water bodies, which lead to their pollution,” he noted.

The President signified that the construction of the Yendi Water Supply marks a beginning of many developmental projects in the region.

“Yaa-Na Mahama Abukari II, when I told you that ‘great days lie ahead of Dagbon’, this is what I meant, as this Project signals the beginning of infrastructural development for Yendi. And, as you know by now, when Akufo-Addo makes a promise, he keeps it.”
