Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), has stated that President Akufo-Addo is repeating the same mistakes that led to the overthrow of his late father, Edward Akufo-Addo, in 1972.

He claimed that the president’s incompetence, mismanagement, and corruption have caused unfathomable economic hardship and are driving Ghanaians insane.

Edward Akufo-Addo became President of the Republic of Ghana in 1970, serving until he was deposed in a coup in 1972 and died in 1979.

According to Osofo Kyiti Abosom, the late Akufo-Addo was deposed because Ghanaians were suffering.

”Ghanaians were experiencing extreme hardship at the time. That is why the late Acheampong overthrew him. And today, his son, President Akufo-Addo, is repeating his father’s mistakes. He has hit a brick wall, but he cannot tell Congress that he has hit a brick wall and is unable to rule.”

He went on to say that while the president had good intentions, he has struggled as a leader thus far. This is similar to a precedent because his father faced the same problem. Ghanaians protested, and that is when Acheampong launched the operation feed yourself after deposing Akufo-Addo.

The best advice I can give Nana Addo Akufo-Addo is to step down from the presidency. He doesn’t have anything else to do. He can’t solve our problems because he has no idea how to do so,” he added.
